SUMMARY:Choban Electrik at The Falcon Underground
DESCRIPTION:Progessive-Psychedelic-Balkan-Folk-Rock! \nFeaturing:\nJordan Shapiro (Project/Object\,Astrograss) – keys/guitar/vocals\nJesse Kotansky (Walking Shapes) – violin\nDave Johnsen (Project/Object\, The Grandmothers) – electric bass\nPhil Kester (Heldin) – drums \nhttp://www.chobanelektrik.com\nIf a prog-rock power trio sprang from the mountains of Albania\, it would sound like Brooklyn’s Choban Elektrik (“Electric Shepards”). With the vintage grit and funk of the\nHammond organ and Fender Rhodes\, a drumset and electric bass\, they reveal new facets of Albanian\, Macedonian\, Greek and Armenian traditional songs.\nThe band adds classic\, soulful American sound to the music of the Balkans in an open jazz-rock approach that combines influences from across the spectrum of world music. The results burst with crackling\, distorted guitar lines ripping through odd Albanian meters; traditional Greek dance tunes gone deeply funky; and mysteriously dreamy space-outs for Caucasus wedding parties. Slow-burning melodies unwind as whammy bars and Leslie speakers take old songs in a radically new direction. \nhttps://youtu.be/815KJyDNWs4\nhttps://youtu.be/SdMOVnxpSFI\nhttps://youtu.be/Sz5QBrXHj4I \n
