Rodney Green & Camden Chronicles

January 21, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

“….high octane stuff….” – All About Jazz

At the age of sixteen, Rodney stepped into the drum seat at Patti LaBelle’s club, Chez LaBelle. Soon Green was booking musicians like pianist, Orrin Evans and saxophonist Sam Newsome at the club. Legendary musician, Bobby Watson was so impressed with the young drummer that he called his parents to ask their permission to take Green to Italy with him, and after much persuasion, they agreed.
Traveling internationally and gigging in New York City, he quickly developed a name for himself. Word continued to spread about the talented young drummer, and Green spent the next couple of years playing with Christian McBride, Eric Reed, Greg Osby, Joe Henderson, Benny Green, Tom Harrell, and Mulgrew Miller.

With a recommendation from bassist, Ben Wolfe, Green joined the band of vocalist Diana Krall at the age of 19. His two-year tenure with Krall taught him a great deal about the business of music, and the importance of being a responsible, mature young professional

Today, Rodney Green is a seasoned professional with experience and skill beyond his years. He is stepping out as a leader with the Rodney Green Group.

Rodney’s new album “Live at Jazzhus Montmartre” in Copenhagen (2017) features Warren Wolf, David Wong and Jacob Christoffersen.

Opener: Francois Moutin + Kavita Shah Duo

French bass virtuoso François Moutin and adventurous New York vocalist Kavita Shah present “Interplay,” their first duo record of jazz standards and original music adapted to this unique instrumentation. Tracks include legendary guests and octogenarians Martial Solal on piano and NEA Jazz Master vocalist Sheila Jordan, on an improvisational journey across lyric-driven and wordless pieces alike.

François Moutin
Virtuosic bassist, Moutin was a member of the legendary Martial Solal Trio, and at 29 began co-leading Quintet Moutin with his twin brother Louis, a project which later evolved into the Moutin Reunion Quartet. He regularly composes and tours extensively throughout Europe and the US, including every important European Jazz Festival. François has worked with Jean-Michel Pilc, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman, Toots Thielemans, James Moody, Michel Legrand, Birele Lagrene, Jimmy Heath, Monty Alexander, Lew Soloff, Billy Hart, Jeff Tain Watts, and Vijay Iyer, among others.

Kavita Shah
Vocalist, composer, Shah has been hailed by NPR for her “amazing dexterity for musical languages”, and named Downbeat Best Graduate Jazz Vocalist in 2012, winning the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award in 2013. Her 2014 debut album VISIONS, co-produced by guitarist Lionel Loueke, blends the kora and tabla with a jazz quintet to reflect “the insatiably curious mind of an ethnographer, the soul of a poet, and the eye of a painter” (NPR). Shah regularly tours the US and Europe, performing in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Winter Jazz Fest, Park Avenue Armory, Art Basel Miami, Blue Note, Jazz Standard, and Joe’s Pub.
