The Mid-Hudson Civic Center is excited to announce the arrival of iconic rock group Styx on Friday, September 23rd at 8:00 PM as part of the 101.5 WPDH 40th Anniversary Celebration!
Known for their hits from the 1970s and 1980s, Styx is infamous for their grandiose style and their ability to fuse multiple musical styles, such as pop rock and hard rock, to create epic, powerful songs. The band has withstood the testament of time and has become an institution and a timeless part of American culture. Formed in 1970, Styx continues to play 100 nights a year throughout the country and their performances continue to thrill and delight fans worldwide.
Styx’s hits were created from a wide array of musical stylings; therefore, a Styx concert covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones. From the progressive splendor of “The Grand Illusion” to “Blue Collar Man,” “Lady, “Miss America,” “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” “Mr. Roboto” and so many others, Styx is musically flawless, treating audiences to their award-winning songs lists, an amazing stage show and their unique signature sound.
As original bassist Chuck Panozzo, who still tours with the band occasionally, has said “We learned the art of theater from David Bowie. We opened for him on his first American tour at Performance Hall in Kansas City on October 15, 1972. When he entered the stage, it was such a mind-blowing experience. That taught us so much about stage presence. Bowie put us in the mindset that you can be more than just a player. You can create an atmosphere with true highs and lows that will draw people in like ancient theater. It’s the live embodiment of a good book that will make you smile, laugh and listen.”
Styx’s performance at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center will also mark the 40th Anniversary Celebration of local classic rock station 101.5 WPDH, owned by Townsquare Media of the Hudson Valley. The concert will serve as a “birthday party” for the station, which was established in 1976 and has been an integral part of the local rock scene for the past four decades.
