SUMMARY:Tim Ries & the East Gipsy Band of Budapest
DESCRIPTION:The Rolling Stones’ Horn-Man is off the road and at The Falcon with a new project \nEast Gipsy Band from Budapest Features:\nJózsef Balázs/Piano\, Lajos Sárközi/Violin\, Krisztián “Toggle” Lakatos/Bass\, Vilmos Oláh\, Cimbalom\, Elemér Balázs/Drums\, Gusztáv Balogh/Vocals and Rolling Stones saxophonist Tim Ries \nhttp://adamboor.wix.com/eastgipsyband\nEAST GIPSY BAND represents a new color on the Hungarian music scene\, as well as in world music. Its members come from first-rank jazz and gypsy musicians. Their music is an adventure within the traditions of Roma music with a great spin on jazz. Improvisation and characteristic features of jazz are central to their music. The band\, formed by József Balázs – who himself is one of the most talented piano players of the young generation\, having played with Erik Truffaz\, Stephane Belmondo\, Bobbie Watson\, Charlie Mariano\, Robin Eubanks\, and Steve Houben\, among others\, – plays well-known French\, German\, Italian\, Hungarian and Roma tunes with unique scoring.\nThe East Gipsy Band is proof that there exists an alternative to what the legendary Django Reinhardt created\, one that represents an exciting fusion format of Roma folk music tradition and jazz. The Band’s 2014 US tour\, included the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Blue Note jazz club among other notable venues\, playing with Tom Ries and Joshua Redman\, as well. Their debut album\, featuring Tim Ries was released in May 2011. \nTim Ries\nhttp://www.timries.com Highly accomplished saxophonist and composer\, Ries tours the world playing saxophone\, keyboard and organ with the Rolling Stones. His recording and performance credits include work with Donald Fagen\, Paul Simon\, Sheryl Crow\, Lyle Lovett\, Stevie Wonder\, Incognito\, Blood Sweat & Tears\, Bob Belden and David Lee Roth. Having already released five original jazz compact discs\, Tim now channels his energy into creating jazz interpretations of rock and roll standards.\nReis turned the tables and arranged Rolling Stones music for his jazz quintet\, drawing a great response when he played the results for the Stones. Keith Richards in particular played it over and over. Tim’s CDs “The Rolling Stones Project” ( I and II) had him leading 24 musicians including Keith Richards\, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts\, as well as Norah Jones\, Sheryl Crow and two of the Stones’ back-up singers in the music. \nhttps://youtu.be/PVYZuLVx7nA \nhttps://youtu.be/Du8OxJ87oOM \n
