Why Can’t We Serve Benefit Concert

July 16, 2016 @ 8:00 pm

Doors open at 7 PM for viewing of Silent Auction items.

A special benefit concert will be held on Saturday, July 16, to support the “Why Can’t We Serve” documentary project. Performers will include Amy Fradon, Leslie Ritter with Cathie Malach, Marc Black and Michael Esposito.

This wonderful evening of music and fun will begin at 8 p.m. in the Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Road, Woodstock, NY 12498. Admission for the concert is a suggested donation of $20. The venue is wheelchair accesible.

The evening will also feature a silent auction of gift items, works of art, services, and a mini-vacation. Visit whycantweserve.com/concert for more information about the event, including an updated list of auction items.

Musicians, artists, and merchants are donating their performances, items, and services for this event to help raise money for the filming of “Why Can’t We Serve”—a full-length
documentary directed by Marty Klein. The documentary project will promote the inclusion of wounded warriors and people with disabilities in military service.

Currently, the U.S. armed forces are not required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), so competent people with disabilities are barred from military service and most wounded service members are not able to continue their military careers. Klein, a blind Air Force vet, hopes that this feature-length documentary can bring these issues to light and effect positive policy change. There will be a large screen viewing of a four-minute trailer about the documentary.

In addition to attending the concert and silent auction, you can visit whycantweserve.com to learn more about the project, view a promotional video, and contribute to the fundraising campaign. To submit a donation item or service for the silent auction, contact Klein through the website whycantweserve.com or send us a message through Facebook.
