Bruce and Joanna are both disciples of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, known during his lifetime as India’s greatest musician and teacher.
Bruce started his training at the Ali Akbar College of Music (AACM) in San Rafael, CA in 1974. He is a teacher at the college since 1981, and has performed onstage with his Guru.
Joanna began her study of sitar in 1997. She has studied intensivly with several eminant teachers including Ust. Ali Akbar Khan and seven years in India with Pt. Deepak Chaudhury.
They are now professional concert artists and respected teachers of Indian music, married and living in Northern California. Separately or together, they entrall audiences worldwide. We are fortunate to have them here in Woodstock/Kingston for a night of sublime music. They will perform evening and seasonal ragas in classical and light classical styles.
Ray Spiegel began playing tabla at the age of thirteen. He attended AACM in 1970 learning under Pt. Shankar Ghosh. Ray went on tour with the East-West Chamber Ensemble to India in 1971, staying on to study tabla in New Delhi with Pt. B.S. Ramanna. He continued with Ustad Zakir Hussain in 1972 and then with Ustad Alla Rakha, with whom he formed a close relationship over twenty five years until his passing in 2000.

This is a rare New York appearence by Bruce and Joanna. I am sure all of our discerning friends with find this concert to be uplifting and of the highest standards that we have come to expect from Woodstock Music Circle concerts. I hoping for a nice turnout to hear these artists. You will not be disappointed!
