Genre: Funk, Rock, Progressive, Jam Band, Jazz
Veteran musicians Joe Gil (trombone), Neil Alexander (organ and keyboards) and Jason Furman (drums) have put together a new group called the “Thunderhead Organ Trio”. The group is taking the concept of the organ trio in a new and different direction, drawing on many different influences and styles. The group explores the grittier, rockier side of the genre referencing groups like the original Tony Williams Lifetime and mines the jazz standard repertoire for obscure gems and deep cuts, as well as original material.
Joe Gil has performed with artists as diverse as David Murray, Craig Harris, Sonny Fortune, Cecil Bridgewater, Jimmy Owens, Willie Colon, Yomo Toro. As well as leading his own groups (Trio Of Terror and the Bean Runner Project).
Neil Alexander has performed with artists such as Gunther Hampel, Virgil Donati, Alphonse Mouzon, Jesse Gress, the Mahavishnu Project, The Machine and many others. He also leads his own group “NAIL” and co leads (with Peter Furlan) a group called “Mr. Gone”, exploring the psychedelic side of early Jazz fusion.
A relatively new transplant from Miami, Jason Furman spent many years honing his craft at the famed Univ. Of Miami school of music where later he became a drum set faculty member. Since being in New York has been active playing everything from Broadway to Rock Fusion, and has played with Arturo Sandoval, Diane Reeves, Joe Willaims and Martin Bejerano (from Roy Haynes band).
He also like short walks on a beach to the nearest Whiskey bar, looking at pictures of kittens playing guitar, and dancing to Peruvian Disco.
