Liv Carrow

“Liv Carrow explores the shadowy terrain of Appalachian melody and traditional balladry in its many forms, crafting songs both strange and familiar that invoke American roots music, the British folk revival of the 60s, pop crooners of the 70s, and freak folk of the ages, with a sprinkling of 90s alt-indie earnestness. Liv Carrow’s introspective, narrative folk songs draw from the rich history of the bardic template to weave poetic wordplay and reference together with captivating melodies, fingerstyle guitar playing and a clear, direct voice that can hush a chattering room. Currently based in Iowa City, IA, Carrow has performed internationally and across the US.

“If Shirley Collins had one too many at the Sebadoh show and made out with Phil Ochs’s ghost dressed as Elvis, Liv Carrow might write a song about it in a dream.”
Liv Carrow’s newest record “Pile of Needles” is now available on Sgmgrecords.com or at shows!

“if she read your tarot cards, she’d know everything about you” -Sidewalk’s Sidewalk

“Listening to Liv lately, I realized that her songs remind me of what I consider real “Antifolk” (although on the other hand I still deny that there is such a thing as Antifolk). But anyway, she seems to fit in with the Moldy Peaches-ish, Jeff Lewis-ish, style that is still associated with Sidewalk in many ways.”

“Liv Carrow plugged in, strumming and plucking her guitar with confidence and ease. She … did not disappoint, wowing the audience with her acoustic guitar, poetic folk/indie style, with songs ranging from tarot cards to the complexities of life.” -Painted Bride Quarterly
