Paul Green, founder of School of Rock, has been teaching kids to play rock music, and Frank Zappa rock music, since 1998. Paul has been the subject of the documentaries Rock School and Woodstock: Then and Now, and the inspiration for the Jack Black character in School of Rock.

The PGRA is comprised of the best and hardest working young musicians in the Hudson Valley. Students take a weekly 45 minute lesson in their primary instrument and attend weekly rehearsals when in season (roughly 30 weeks per year) in preparation for seasonal shows. The top students in the school are chosen to perform as the “Show Band,” and have played at Lollapalooza, Carnegie Hall, CBGBs, Mountain Jam, and Austin City Limits and they have shared the stage with Perry Farrell, Gene Ween and Alice Cooper. They bring talent beyond their years to the Belleayre Music Festival stage to perform the classic compositions of jazz-fusion legend, Frank Zappa.

No musician had a longer tenure with Frank Zappa, or appeared on more albums, than Ed Mann. Being Frank Zappa’s percussionist meant playing the hardest lines and rhythms while supplying a batterie of acoustic and electronic sounds.

Ed’s post-Zappa career has been rich and varied – teaching music at colleges, recording for the top film composers in LA, working with Rickie Lee Jones, Kenny Loggins and Andy Summers. In 2012, Ed began performing with luminaries in the Jam Band circuit as an electronic mallet keyboardist, percussionist and sound artist.

This show is sponsored by the Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth Health.
